Drop in a PDF, slide deck or Word doc. Foglight writes multiple-choice questions from it, a few at a time — and every one links back to the page it came from.

01 / A SIMPLE START

Three steps. One clearer study session.

No need to rewrite your whole notebook. Start with the materials you already have.

Bring your notes

Open a PDF, slide deck or Word doc. Give all those scattered facts a starting point.

01 — Start with your own material

Take it one level at a time

Read first. Then try a few questions and find out what stuck.

02 — Recall, instead of just rereading

Make room for review

Return to your review queue for another pass at the things worth remembering.

02 / KEEP THE CONTEXT

Every question.
Back to the source.

Every answer can be found, word for word, in your own material. Questions that don't match the source are thrown out before you ever see them.

  • The quote is matched against your file by code — not taken on the AI's word.
  • If the answer isn't in the quoted sentence, the question is dropped.
  • After you answer, open the source and read it in context.

03 / MADE FOR THE WORK

Small tools. Better study habits.

Your materials stay yours. A few thoughtful tools help you put them to work.

PDFs, slides, Word, YouTube

PDFs (English scans too), PowerPoint .pptx, Word study guides — or a Word question bank with its answer key. YouTube videos with captions work too.

Read, then answer

Read the page first, then answer a few multiple-choice questions on that same page.

Misses come back

Questions you get wrong return in your review queue, right before you'd forget them.

Mark what matters

Highlight a word or short phrase and its sentence becomes a fill-in card for your marked-words drill.

Bad question? Delete it

Tap ✕ on any question you don't trust. Whole decks can be deleted too, with a few seconds to undo.

A free key is enough

Groq and Zhipu have free tiers; DeepSeek is cheap but paid. Your key stays on your computer, and requests go straight to the provider.

04 / YOUR MATERIAL. YOUR MOMENT.

Start wherever you need to learn.

BEFORE AN EXAM01

Give that pile of notes a plan.

Practice from your own notes, then revisit the source when something feels unfamiliar.

AFTER CLASS02

See what you can recall today.

Read a page and try a level while the lesson is still fresh.

CONCEPTS & TERMS03

Go from familiar to memorable.

Mark the concepts you want to keep and give them a focused round of practice.

ABOUT YOUR MATERIALS

Your study session. Your choices.

Foglight is free, with no account. It writes questions with your own AI key, and the text needed goes straight to the provider you choose, not through Foglight's servers.

This website uses no third-party analytics and needs no cookies. A random ID is sent only if you tap “I want the web version”.

Your files stay on your computer

Materials don't pass through Foglight servers. Cloud AI receives the text needed to write questions.

Choose your own AI

Use your own AI key. The text needed to write questions goes straight to your chosen provider, not through Foglight's servers. Limits and terms are set by your provider.

Usage counts are optional

Untick “Send anonymous usage counts” under ⚙ Settings → Advanced records — it takes effect right away. The first-launch notice lists every field that's sent.

06 / A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Let's clear a few things up.

From your first file to your first review.

Does Foglight cost anything?

It's free, no account needed. Questions are written with your own AI key, and Groq and Zhipu offer free tiers.

Do I need an AI key?

A cloud key is recommended: it's the fastest and easiest. The app also has a local AI option, free and offline, but the first run downloads a model of about 3.4 GB and writing questions is slower than in the cloud.

Where can I get an AI key?

Visit a provider's official page below, then add your key in Foglight Settings.

Which materials can I import?

PDFs (scanned ones must be in English), PowerPoint .pptx (text only — words inside images aren't read), and Word .docx (study guides, or question banks with an answer key). You can also paste a YouTube link that has captions. Save old .ppt / .doc files as PDF first.

What if a question is wrong?

Questions that don't match the source are already dropped, but the ones left can still be wrong. Open the source to check, and tap ✕ to delete any you don't trust.

Where does my data live?

Study content is managed locally in the desktop app. With cloud AI, the text needed to write questions is sent to your chosen provider, without passing through Foglight servers.

What are anonymous usage counts?

Sent: a random ID, the version, Windows or Mac, your region, the date, which kind of AI you use, and counts like decks, answers and study days. Never sent: your files, file names, questions, answers or keys. To stop it, untick “Send anonymous usage counts” under ⚙ Settings → Advanced records.

Why does Windows show a warning?

Foglight is new and isn't code-signed yet. The warning should not be called a false positive. Verify the source and follow the installation tips or read the full guide.

What if my Mac won't open it?

Move Foglight to Applications, then use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. See the download section and full guide for more cases.

Can I use an Intel Mac?

No. The Mac release requires Apple Silicon: M1 or a later chip.

How do Mac users in China download it?

Mac installers are only on GitHub. Gitee hosts Windows installers only; GitHub may be slow or unavailable from mainland China.

Is it available in English and Chinese?

Yes. Pick your region on first launch — English for the US, Chinese for China — and change it any time in ⚙ Settings.

Does it work on phones or tablets?

Foglight is currently a desktop app for Windows and Apple Silicon Macs. You can browse this website on your phone, but studying takes place on a computer.
